Windows Vista Solution List


  • Make certain that you aren't already connected, and if you are not try powercycling your DSL modem and restarting your computer.
  • Are you certain there is no other connection open? Make certain no other connections to the Internet exist and check your Startup folder to see if there might be software that is causing your computer to connect automatically when it is restarted.
  • Delete the username and password, making certain to press backspace and delete several times to remove any possible spaces that you were unable to see. Verify that you have both the correct username and password. Once you have verified these, retype your username and password, making certain to type them in the correct case.

  • Did you recently install or make changes to a Firewall? Make certain you have the disc/files to reinstall the Firewall and uninstall the Firewall. If your connection is able to function after uninstalling the Firewall, try reinstalling it. If it ceases to function again, contact the Firewall vendor.
  • Are you using WinPoET? (Note: The followig fix uses double quotes, these are not to be included in what you actually type, but only the values between the quotes.) If so, this may require a TAPI Registry Fix. Close all software (antivirus, anti-spyware, Winpppoverethernet.exe, etc), click Start, click Run, type regedit, click Registry, click Export, and export the registry for backup purposes. After you have backed up the registry open the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\ Telephony\Providers\" key. Once open, look for a string value "ProviderFilename0". If it does not exist, create it with the value of "TSP3216L.TSP". If it does exist, set the value to "TSP3216L.TSP". If you made any changes, close the registry editor and restart the computer.

  • When connecting, make certain nothing is entered in the "Domain" field if nothing should be entered there.
  • Delete the username and password, making certain to press backspace and delete several times to remove any possible spaces that you were unable to see. Verify that you have both the correct username and password. Once you have verified these, retype your username and password, making certain to type them in the correct case.
  • Delete and recreate the connection as the connection file may be corrupt and/or missing.
  • Make certain that the RASPHONE.PBK file is located in the \system32\RAS\ folder. If the file is located in the proper location, try renaming the file and run RASPHONE.EXE. If the file is not located in this folder, try running RASPHONE.EXE.
  • Are you using WinPoET? If so, go into your RAS settings and configure the PoET Adapters to "Dail Out Only".
  • Did you recently install or make changes to a Firewall? Make certain you have the disc/files to reinstall the Firewall and uninstall the Firewall. If your connection is able to function after uninstalling the Firewall, try reinstalling it. If it ceases to function again, contact the Firewall vendor.
